An ex-felon who was convicted of second-degree murder for shooting an injured man in the head has been sentenced to 40-years-to-life in prison.

21-year-old Anthony Rivera skipped town in 2015 after killing 28-year-old Jose Banales at the victim’s east Bakersfield home. Banales was recovering from an unrelated leg injury when he was shot.
