A man held in jail for two years accused of killing a woman in east Bakersfield is being set free. 54-year-old Bennie West, Sr. faced murder charges in the death of 40-year-old Angela McCall at a motel on Union Avenue, but prosecutors said Friday they don’t believe they could secure a conviction and dismissed the charges. There are no other suspects and the case could be reopened should more evidence be uncovered.
