Eighty-two Golden Empire Transit bus stops are being upgraded to better accommodate disabled passengers.

GET spokeswoman Gina Hayden says the concrete sidewalks, painted curbs, and fixed lifts will help people shop, make doctor’s appointments, and get to work.

The Kern Council of Governments and the City of Bakersfield are helping fund the at least $1.5-Million project, which is scheduled to be completed in 2019. Sixty-nine stops have already been upgraded.
