USGS SURVEY SAYS “THE BIG ONE” IS OVERDUE

The U.S. Geological Survey says it is not worried about a devastating earthquake in our area even though their new report says we’re overdue for a big one.

Dr. Kate Scharer and her team studied the Frazier Mountain part of the San Andreas fault and found temblors usually come a century apart, but it can take as long as 200 years before the next one strikes. The last major earthquake on that part of the fault was a 7.9-magnitude one in Fort Tejon in 1857.

The data from this report will be used to improve local infrastructure.
