A bicycle rider who ran a red light in east Bakersfield is hospitalized with major injuries.
Police say the man was struck just after 9:00 Monday morning at Baker and Monterey streets. The driver of the sedan braked hard when he saw the cyclist but was unable to avoid hitting him. The driver was not hurt despite a smashed-in windshield and stayed at the scene but the intersection was closed for about two hours.
Officers do not believe drugs and alcohol were factors in the crash.
