The Kern County District Attorney’s office has come out against a measure that would do away with bail for most California suspects.
Supporters of Assembly Bill 42 say the current system keeps poor people in jail while the rich buy their way out, but Assistant DA Scott Spielman thinks the plan could be dangerous because there is no way to force felons to show up to court.
The Assembly Public Safety Committee votes on the measure on Tuesday.
