MEMORIAL FINED IN CHOKING DEATH

Bakersfield Memorial Hospital has been fined by the State Health Department for failing to monitor a patient. That patient later died. The $75 thousand fine announced Thursday involved a woman who had uncontrolled eating urges after brain surgery, and she was ordered to be fed under supervision. She choked to death while eating unattended at the hospital in March of last year. The hospital says they have changed policies to assure this doesn’t happen again.
