One person had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a kitchen caught fire at a southwest Bakersfield apartment complex.

City Fire Battalion Chief John Frando says they had to evacuate the entire building on Ming Avenue near El Portal Drive when smoke started coming out of one of the units just before 8:00 Monday morning because it had spread to a common attic.

Investigators believe a tenant accidentally started the fire when he left a fryer on too long while he was cooking breakfast.
