Kern County firefighters started a fire on purpose near State Route 223 as a training exercise this wildfire season.

Deputy Chief Brent Moon says the White Wolf Burn in the hills near Tehachapi has similar conditions to last year’s Deer Fire and let younger guys fight their first large-scale fire.

Tuesday’s burn also got rid of grass fuels that can get sparked by cars.
