An elderly couple has been found dead in an apartment on 20th Street in central Bakersfield in what police say are suspicious circumstances.

A neighbor asked police to check on them Saturday because because a foul odor was coming from the unit. The couple may have been dead for a few days.

The identities of the elderly couple have not been released and there are no details on how they died.
