Deputies say a man who was shot in the torso Monday night in Oildale has died of his wound while the man suspected of pulling the trigger has been let go.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to an apartment complex on Olive Drive near Sanford Drive around 8:00 and found a 62-year-old Raymond Rankin standing out front with a shot gun. He was released after talking with detectives pending further investigation.

The name of the 35-year-old victim has not been released.
