LAKE ISABELLA TO MAX OUT

The Kern River watermaster says Lake Isabella is about to reach the maximum recommended level. Snow melt should fill the lake to 361-thousand acre feet in the next few days. It can hold 580-thousand acre feet but is being held down as the dam undergoes seismic retrofitting. The watermaster has informed the Army Corps of Engineers about the situation, the level was also exceeded in 2011. The lake spent decades above the recommended level and only a major earthquake would cause a problem with water behind the dam.
