City hazmat firefighters were called out to a shopping center at Mt. Vernon Avenue and Columbus Street.The call to the strip mall in east Bakersfield came after a gas can was found behind a business with an unknown substance. The immediate area was evacuated Monday afternoon while crews removed and disposed of the mystery material. No one was hurt in the hazmat incident.
