County firefighters are investigating the cause of a two-alarm fire a vacant east Bakersfield home.

Crews spotted the flames on Sterling Road and Deacon Avenue while they were headed to another fire around 11:00 Monday morning, and Captain Jason Knaggs says the overgrown grass made it spread and threaten five occupied homes. The flames were put out in less than an hour, and no other structures burned.

The fire also came close some cows but the animals were not harmed.
