BAKERSFIELD WAGES BELOW AVERAGE

A new report says Bakersfield workers make four percent less than the national average.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says workers here take home about $22.79 an hour or about a dollar less than most places. However, spokesman David Kong says the lower number is mostly due to the ag industry, which has lower paying jobs on average.

It is not all bad news: architects, engineers, computer services, lawyers and social workers are paid much more here than in other states.
