CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS RAISING WATER RATES

The Bakersfield City Council is expected to discuss raising water rates to remove the cancer causing compound trichloro-propane at its next meeting Wednesday night. Water Resources Manager Art Chianello says the increase would impact residents west of Stine Road as well as parts of the northwest and southwest areas. If approved, the city is expected to spend $55 million to remove the TCP from drinking water.
