Bakersfield Public Works crews have reopened part of Truxtun Avenue a week after a large sinkhole shut it down. Water from the Kern River as well as the heat are blamed for the pavement collapse near the Westside Parkway, and Public Works Director Nick Fidler says this “Act of God” will make them do one thing differently. He says they will also be monitoring waterways, sewers and storm drains more closely to prevent another sinkhole.
