HEAT KILLS SHELTER DOG FOR FIRST-TIME

The dog who was struggling with a extreme heat stroke at a Kern County animal shelter has died.

A Good Samaritan dropped off Stetson at their Fruitvale Avenue shelter Thursday with a 106-degree temperature, and workers tried to cool him down. Animal Services Director Nick Cullen believes Stetson may have an owner and got loose from a backyard

Cullen says this is the first time an animal has died from the heat at one of their shelters, but they have treated three for extreme heat illnesses this year.
