BIG RIG CRASH SHUTS FREEWAY, STARTS FIRE

The CHP is investigating what caused a crash between a tanker and semi that led to a complete shut down of I-5 near the Grapevine.

The accident around 2:30 Thursday afternoon caused one of the big rigs to burn to the ground and caused 6,000 gallons of hot asphalt to spill into the lanes.

The fire then spread to the hillsides and grew to 338 acres. County crews are using air tankers and helicopters to put it out.
