The man who admitted he helped a fellow gang member kill another man has been sentenced to more than 24 years in prison.

Jesse Gomez kidnapped then kept victim Justin Brewer from escaping the northwest Bakersfield home where he was murdered two years ago, but Deputy DA Joseph Kinzel says the two didn’t have a beef.

Killer Matthew Mejia got 36 years in prison last month. Prosecutors believe he killed Brewer for not returning stolen property.

Two other co-defendants also took plea deals.
