RECORD YEAR FOR CAP AND TRADE

Shares in California’s Cap-and-Trade program have sold at their highest price ever, which may put $944 million in the state’s bank account.

Dave Clegern with the Air Resources Board says almost 64 million shares were sold at $14.75 a piece, and that will fund a lot of clean energy programs here like the High Speed Rail and upgraded bus stops.

Businesses that emit more than 25,000 tons of carbon a year, like ag and oil, are required to buy in.
