County firefighters and the Public Health Department are kicking off Disaster Preparedness Month by asking people to make sure they have emergency kits. Emergency Services Manager Georgianna Armstrong says you cannot count on the government if something goes wrong. Kern County has faced floods as well as large scale earthquakes and wildfires in the past, having backup medication is also encouraged.
