SOCCER STEALER GETS JAIL, PROBATION

The woman who pleaded no contest to embezzling more than $165,000 from the Kern County Soccer Foundation has been sentenced to five years probation, including a year in jail. Prosecutors say former bookkeeper Denise McKay stole the money by forging board members’s names on checks. She also has to pay full restitution.

Foundation volunteer Jay Rosenlieb says the club had set aside that money to make improvements to their field in northeast Bakersfield and has revamped their procedures so something like this does not happen again.
