Bakersfield Police say a man and three dogs have been killed in a two-car crash on Highway 178 just west of Rancheria Road. Investigators say the victim was headed east when his compact car drifted around 2:30 Thursday afternoon and slammed head-on into an SUV.

Firefighters used the jaws of life Thursday afternoon to extricate two women from an SUV and a passenger sedan. They were taken to a hospital for moderate injuries.
