RALLYING FOR A CLEAN BILL

More than a dozen people held a rally at the Liberty Bell in downtown Bakersfield to urge Governor Brown to pass an anti-climate change measure before the legislative deadline.

Senate Bill 100 directs state utilities to get all their electricity from renewables by 2045, which those at Thursday’s event argue would bring high paying jobs to the area and clean up Kern County’s air.

Opponents argue SB100 will artificially drive up electricity costs for lower income residents and businesses and cause those in the oil industry to lose their jobs.

The State Assembly has a week left to pass the bill and send it to Governor Brown.
