SENTENCE FOR A HEROIN CRASH

The McFarland man who killed his common law wife in a DUI crash in Delano has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

56-year-old Jose Garcia was high on heroin when he hit a pole on Cecil Avenue last year, and Deputy District Attorney Garrett Rice says he had not buckled in wheelchair-bound victim Rosa Trejo, which contributed to her death.

Garcia pleaded no contest to gross vehicular manslaughter in June after their family asked for a deal.
