McFarland police have arrested a man after a neighborhood near Kyra Avenue was evacuated following a small fire. Officers say 43-year-old Jose Saavedra was found hiding in a closet Tuesday then booked for being under the influence of a controlled substance. Police say they smelled unknown fumes from inside a residence, that’s when a Hazmat unit from Public Health responded.
