An appeals court has ruled in favor of a Kern County mother after it struck two enhancements from her criminal case of torture and other charges. 31-year-old Sarai Alavez was convicted in 2015 of inflicting life-threatening injuries against her then two-year-old daughter. Her conviction was upheld.
