Four people are safe after a fire burned down their home in Taft. Kern County firefighters are investigating what sparked the fire on Van Buren and Elm streets around 2:00 Friday morning. The family was alerted to the fire when the smoke detector went off. Damage is estimated at $90,000.

The fire also caused $10,000 in damage when it spread to the house next door.
