Kern Medical has new equipment that helps move patients quickly and securely around the east Bakersfield hospital.

The items in the “Up Sooner, Safer” system are mechanically or physically operated based on a person’s needs. Chief Nursing Officer Toni Smith says they will reduce her staff’s back strains, which may lead to lower Worker’s Compensation claims.

Smith says getting patients moving sooner will also reduce bedsores and the risk of falls.
