PRISON FOR FATAL DUI

A man with a history of drunk driving arrests has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for a DUI crash that killed the ex-mayor of Wasco.

Lorenzo Alonzo was also speeding when he ran a red light last year on 7th Standard Road and Golden State Highway in Bakersfield, broadsiding 81-year-old Melvin McLaughlin. He had pleaded no contest to gross vehicular manslaughter last month.

Alonzo also apologized to the family during Monday’s sentencing through his attorney.
