The Kern High School District is getting ready to break ground on a $60 million Regional Occupation Center in southwest Bakersfield to train thousands of students for 21st century jobs.

Educational Services Director Ben Sherley wants kids to get hired locally, so they are offering everything from banking to welding to video game design. Sherley says they need the campus because their other school on the eastside is packed, and they have been turning away thousands of students.

The district also plans on opening a Career Technical Education Center at Frontier High next year.

The money comes from the Measure K school bond.
