The Kern County District Attorney’s office has determined the shooting of an armed suspect by a Shafter police officer was justified. Eric Diaz shot Oscar Ponce in the hand during the incident in September 2016 near a Fastrip store on East Lerdo Highway. Officers responded after getting reports of a naked man washing himself with a squeegee.
