Cal Water is building a new well in south Bakersfield that can pump up to 2 million gallons of groundwater a day.
District Manager Mike Mares says the project is part of the utility’s long-term infrastructure plan, and is their first new well here in a decade. Cal Water decided to build it because the city is growing so fast.
Mares will not say where the $1.8 million well is located, but it will also serve firefighters and emergency services when construction is completed in April.
