Kern County firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that gutted a garage in east Bakersfield and sent a column of smoke into the air. The fire started around 3:00 Sunday afternoon on Jumbuck Avenue near South Union Avenue.

Crews kept it from spreading to the home, and no one was hurt.
