A bill by Bakersfield Assemblyman Rudy Salas to keep qualified deputies on the job has cleared the Public Safety Committee on a unanimous vote and now heads to the full Assembly. AB 1888 extends the time a custodial officer has to complete basic training and be hired for patrol, it also extends flexible hiring practices for departments.
