The man who pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter after shooting a suspected gang member outside his home in northeast Bakersfield has been sentenced to 180 days in jail and three years probation. Luis Ortega-Romero says he was acting in self defense last year after Ernesto Venegas showed up and threatened his wife, who was a witness in a burglary case.
