STATE MONEY FOR LOCAL PROJECTS

California’s new gas taxes are paying for several street repairs around Bakersfield. Public Works Director Nick Fidler says the state is kicking in $31-Million to help them replace the Belle Terrace bridge.  Senate Bill 1 levies an extra 12-cents for a gallon for gas and 20-cents for diesel to pay for road repairs, which Fidler says will be used in the next few years to resurface 24th Street downtown. Fidler says they’ll spend $2-Million this year to fix some less traveled roads and are coming up with a plan for the $6-Million we’ll get next year.
