The Bakersfield Animal Care Center is hosting a Kitten Shower on Saturday to support the hundreds of newborns that will soon flood the shelter. Director Julie Johnson says there’s a long list of needed supplies, such as bottles, fleece blankets and heating pads to keep the babies warm, as well as things like puppy pads, cat carriers and Dawn dish soap. Volunteers are also needed to hand-feed the tiny kitties until they’re old enough to be adopted. “If you’re going to foster for us, we’re going to give you everything you need to be a successful foster parent.” The program is also vital to keeping kittens younger than six weeks old from being put down because they’ve been separated from their mothers too soon. The Animal Care Center is on Mt. Vernon Avenue just south of Hwy. 58 in east Bakersfield, there will also be food and prizes at the Kitten Shower March 31st that’s from 10:00 to Noon.
