A 55-year-old Shafter man is jailed on $3.6-million bail after an hours-long standoff where he exchanged gunfire with SWAT. Deputies say John Wells barricaded himself inside a house on Atlantic Avenue around 7:40 Saturday night as they investigated a theft, despite being shot in the chest, and he was eventually flushed out with tear gas. The wound is described as minor, he’s due in court Tuesday on charges that include attempted murder.
