BURRITO PROJECT FEEDS HOMELESS

The Bakersfield Burrito Project celebrated its 9th anniversary by feeding hundreds of homeless people downtown, even as their founder becomes homeless herself.

Belinda Lopez Rickett has not been able to find affordable housing after losing the lease on her home, and used Sunday’s event at Central Park at Mill Creek to teach volunteers that homelessness can happen to anyone.

The charity made a 25ft. vegetarian burrito and handed out hygiene kits during the event, which also had outreach services for veterans.
