PREPPING FOR THREATS

Kern County is developing a five year Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment to be better prepared for emergencies, called THIRA for short.

Emergency Services leaders worked with disaster preparedness expert Randy Brawley all week with to provide a report for the Federal Emergency Management Administration, or FEMA, which could soon lead to grant money.

FEMA prioritizes risk by the “worst most likely” threat, which is everything from natural disasters to those cause by humans.
