The man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend and a Good Samaritan inside a Bakersfield Starbucks has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder. Police say Robert Rivas chased the woman with a machete from a nearby apartment into the coffee shop on Stockdale Hwy near New Stine Road on Sunday.

Blaine Hodge, who tried to stop the attack, had surgery on his hand. The woman is in critical condition.
