DRIVERS NABBED IN PEDESTRIAN SAFETY STING

Fifty-four drivers have been cited during the CHP’s Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operation targeting some of the most dangerous intersections in Oildale and east Bakersfield.

Plain clothed officers crossed the street Friday morning on Roberts Lane and Plymouth Avenue and Niles and Webster streets, then motorcycle officers stopped speeders, distracted drivers, or those who didn’t stop at the crosswalk. Educational material was also passed out to drivers and pedestrians.

47 pedestrians died in Bakersfield last year, the most in California.
