Kern County Fire used dozers and ground crews to get the upper hand on the 99 acre Lynn Fire north of Bakersfield.

It’s not known what sparked the grass fire around 2:45 Friday afternoon north of Merced Avenue and Highway 65, but Engineer Andrew Freeborn says they had a recommended evacuation order in place for six homeowners as it burned close to Poso Hollow Road. No homes were damaged, and residents were able to return about an hour later.

Freeborn says the amount of dry grass in the area as well as a light breeze helped the fire spread.
