The Bakersfield man who pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter for killing another driver in a crash on Taft Highway has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

The CHP says Franklin Villalta-Juarez was in a stolen sedan and passing other cars on the dirt shoulder when he hit 20-year-old Angel Mully’s SUV near Stine Road last year.

Prosecutors agreed to strike a plea deal with him so the victim’s family wouldn’t be put through a long trial.
