A correctional officer has pleaded not guilty to vehicular manslaughter for a head-on crash south of Bakersfield that killed a mother and her daughter.

The CHP says Jiovanni Ferguson was speeding and trying to pass a semi on Old River Road when she hit Maria and Itzel Chavoya near Bear Mountain Blvd in June.

Ferguson works at the Taft Correctional Facility.
