NEW FREEWAYS COME WITH A COST

The American Society of Civil Engineers says there’s one major problem with Kern County’s ambitious freeway projects this past decade. Chairman Daniel Cronquist told Supervisors this week we have 64-hundred miles of roads and will need a lot of money to fix them. “More than half of them have unsuitable pavement conditions and require rehabilitation, which is estimated at $375-million to repair all of the roads.” Cronquist says one-time grants paid for several major projects here and the county will need to figure out how to pay for maintaining them.
