The former Tehachapi prison guard who gunned down the co-worker dating his estranged wife has been sentenced to 80-years-to-life in prison.

Prosecutors say Rigoberto Sanchez had been breaking into the woman’s east Bakersfield apartment for months before Edwin Lima’s murder last year, but decided to shoot the couple after he was caught on security camera during one of the burglaries.

He threw a cinder block into the window to catch Lima’s attention before shooting him 17 times. Sanchez also shot at his wife but missed.
