WINGS OF RESCUE

The Wings of Rescue group is partnering with the Bakersfield Animal Shelter to fly out 40 dogs to “forever homes” from Epic Jet Center in Idaho Wednesday morning. Executive Director, Julie Johnson says large dogs like huskies enjoy getting out of their cages and living in the colder temperatures up north. Johnson adds that Rick Browdy with the Wings of Rescue organization offered to supply crates, an airplane, gas and volunteer pilots for the canine journey. The flights relieve the SPCA of the overcrowding conditions in the animal shelter. Johnson works with the Rescue team several times throughout the year.

Director Johnson says her center has also been busy transporting animals out of fire ravaged areas into safety. Johnson adds that pets who have suffered in the recent wildfires may be burned and in need of medicine, veterinary aftercare treatment and supplies for several weeks and encourages the public to directly donate money, not pet food to locals shelters.
